Wild Kidlington Project

The new, three year ‘Wild Kidlington’ project is ready to hit the ground running! This is one of several ‘Wilding’ projects now found across the County with Wild Banbury and Wild Bicester as close neighbours.  The conservation charity, Wild Oxfordshire are excited to be hosting this partnership project, (funded for three years with thanks to Cherwell District Council), that will enable Kidlington to “bring the wild back” to the village.

Purpose:

  1. To enhance the nature themed groups and activities that are already going on in Kidlington
  2. Improve green spaces for wildlife in the village
  3. Connect local residents to nature and increase understanding of local wildlife

Who:
This project is a collaboration, funded by Cherwell District Council. Wild Kidlington’s new Project Officer, Rhiannon Evetts (Wild Oxfordshire) is working closely with KEG, St Mary’s Fields, Cherwell collective as well as other local groups and the Parish Council to ensure the project’s delivery and success.

What to Expect / Plans for the Project:

  • More wildlife themed walks and talks
  • Enhanced Green Spaces
  • Wildlife gardening tips and advice
  • More nature connecting activities

Coming up events:

  • Lyne Road Green Volunteer meeting: Monday 6 th June 11am. Meeting at Lyne Road Green and then either staying there or going to Exeter Hall depending on the weather. Meeting agenda: discuss the new management plan and take a look at the upcoming volunteering opportunities for the site as well as to get to know each other.
  • Kidlington Parish Gala Day: Saturday 23 rd July, featuring the Green Lane again.  This promises to be an exciting day, with many local environmental groups having a presence there, showing how our ‘village’ is now greener than ever. If you would like your group to
attend please either contact Les Dent (Kidlington Parish Council) or Rhiannon

News:
– The new Lyne Road Green management plan has been presented to the Parish Council and plans are now underway to make the planned habitat enhancements a reality! If you would like to become a Lyne Road Green volunteer to help deliver the management plan, please contact Rhiannon.
– Our first walk and talk was a huge success! 32 people came for our 4am Dawn Chorus walk, led by Wild Oxfordshire’s Mike Pollard and Julia Trowles from St Mary’s Fields. We saw tawny owl chicks and rather befittingly, identified ‘jack-go-to-bed-at-noon” growing in the
meadow.
